Film Study

Here is a sketch I did, as a study, on one of my favorite films. The film is called Last Man Standing (Directed by Walter Hill). My dad showed me this film a long time ago. He and I always watch it together when we get the chance. The movie has some really nice shots, lighting and mood in it. So I chose one of the scenes I liked and this is the illustration that resulted. Here's a link to the movie....

new work - related to ship designs below this post

These were concepts of scenes that were for an unannounced game title. These were more along the lines of speed paintings and roughs, to capture it quickly. Each scene was taking place either on/in/around these air ships (designs for the ships are below this post). Unfortunately, the game never saw the light of day. All I am allowed to say is the tone / era set for this was a bit sci-fi / fantasy, while encompassing WWI / WWII eras and Steampunk. Machines were made of iron and steel, lots of rivets, lots of bolts, lots of smoke / steam, oil, gritty and dirty. We looked a lot at WWI and WWII history. Overall, it was a fun project to work on.

Sir Thomas Lawrence Study

I decided to take an hour or so to study some Master Artist's works...specifically Sir Thomas Lawrence.

This is my attempt at re-creating his Master-piece. I used photoshop and brushes that I had tweaked / created, to try and get Lawrence's technique down.

For some amazing inspiration of the Old Masters go to this link....

Quick Jungle Comp

Treasure Island

This is a rough comp for the cover of a book that I am visually interpreting. I know the letters are too close, and the font layout, etc. needs work. They are just a place holder for now, to convey my idea. This is also the beginning stages of the painting. :)

work in progress - sky angels

This is the beginning sketch of one of the many pilot characters I am developing. These characters are for a personal story that I had in mind. I have always been fascinated with the old WWI and WWII era pilots and their history. I needed to escape from the environment deal for a bit, I do a lot of that sort of thing at work. Maybe we peeps are more drawn to characters of the story because of the human part of it, we can connect. In any case, here is a sneak peek:

Just a heads up, I have been working on some concepts for my own rendition of Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island" - in which case, this may become an art book I will be printing in the future. So check back on updates with that one as well. :) Cheers!
